Alternative Career Pathways
What is ACP?
Alternative Career Pathways (ACP) is a unique initiative that provides teachers an opportunity to explore professional interests through meaningful and empowering professional development experiences. Participating school districts continue to report the incredible impact that completed projects have had on students, staff and the community. Upon successful completion of an ACP project, participants are awarded 1 - 3 credits to be used for advancement on the salary schedule.
Personalized Professional Development That Acknowledges the Unique Needs of Adult Learners
Educators who have experienced personalized learning for themselves know how impactful this methodology can be for students.
Many of the district's educators have had some experience in personalizing learning for students, and know how impactful these personalized experiences can be. ACP provides teachers with self-directed personalized learning opportunities, while honoring the fact that adult learners have different needs, life experiences, and skill sets than younger learners. Malcolm Knowles’s Andragogy, or Adult Learning Theory, outlines these unique characteristics of adult learners and guides our understanding of best practices in creating meaningful, results-based professional development.

ACP is providing opportunities for teachers in all of these districts to personalize their professional development, and allows for collaboration among teachers in different districts around the region. For example, the ACP Coordinators can facilitate collaboration among groups of teachers with similar course assignments, grade levels, interests, or identified student needs.
